Love between aliens: from ephemeral to eternity

I was reading the book, “The Character of Physics Law” by Richard Feynman. In Chapter 4, he envisioned we have to communicate with aliens from far away. If they ask, how tall are you? We can use the size of the hydrogen nuclei as a baseline. Since its diameter is 1.70×10^−15 meters, I can tell aliens, I am 1.1 * 10^15 hydrogen nuclei diameter tall. When I have to explain, my heart is on the left side of my body, there is difficulty. What is left and right? For matters, we have to rely on the parity violation law, which we can communicate the direction of the electron self-spin because of the parity. But it only works when both sides are made of matters. One party can be made of anti-matter. And scientists have no idea if the parity is the opposite in the anti-matter or not. So there is no way to make sure we can communicate parity.

It’s fascinating how concepts from physics, especially those as intriguing as antimatter, can spark romantic ideas. As wonderful as the thought experiment, there is an imagery of love between matters and anti-matters. They are inevitably attracted to each other, but when they embrace each other, they turn into sparks of many particles. Electrons and Positrons turned into Photons. Because photons travel at the speed of light, the time stopped. The ephemeral spark turns into eternity.

From ephemeral to eternity

In realms where stars dare not align,

Where silence weaves through the cosmic spine,

There lived a man not bound by time,

Of antimatter, born of prime.

On the opposite side of the galaxy, she danced in the light,

A maiden wrought from matter’s might,

Her laughter echoed through the night,

With positive energy of sheer delight.

Their love, a tale of unseen hues,

Of longing glances, silent cues,

For fate’s cruel hand would thus refuse.

Their hearts’ desires, their right to choose.

“If ever close we dare to tread,”

He whispered low, with heavy dread,

“The cosmos itself would mourn us dead,

Our union, the universe’s thread.”

Yet in their eyes, a spark did grow,

A defiant flame against the cosmic flow,

For love, they deemed, was theirs to know,

Beyond the bounds of high and low.

They dreamt of touches, soft and sweet,

Where antimatter, and matter meet,

In a fleeting second, hearts would beat,

In that brief moment, love is complete.

But dreams give way to harsher light,

For in their embrace, so tight,

A flash consumed them, blinding bright,

Their love lighted up the endless night.

From nothingness, they formed anew,

A nebula of vibrant hue,

Their love a legend, born of two,

A testament of what is true.

Though together, they could never be,

In death, they found their unity,

A cosmic dance for all to see,

From ephemeral to eternity.
